As soon as one pedestrian started shrieking, it quickly got the attention of many others. Furthermore, there was paparazzi caught among the traffic stand-still.
Given that one of the main subjects of the sensational news was there, how would the paparazzi give up such an opportunity? The reporters abandoned their cars and rushed over with their cameras in tow.
âPei Zhen, have you really terminated your contract with the company?â
âPei Zhen, why are you not driving?â
âPei Zhen, now that youâre in such a situation, do you regret coming out of the closet?â
The reporters fired a whole lot of questions. However, Pei Zhen, who was stunned by the ambush, didnât pay attention to what they were saying. He turned around to look at Xiao Nian, who was frozen in place now, and shouted, âHurry, letâs go!â Then stepping on the pedal, he cycled away.
That was the fastest that Pei Zhen had ever cycled.
The wind in his face and his windbreaker billowing behind him, he looked every bit dashing.
But the reporters werenât thinking that way.
Already penning out a script of âEx-popular celebrity scrambled after coming outâ in their imagination, they clicked away furiously at Pei Zhenâs disappearing silhouette.
After taking the pictures, the dutiful paparazzi continued their unflagging efforts by keying in their passwords into their phones and unlocking their own bicycles. Then, they took off in Pei Zhenâs direction, pursuing him relentlessly.
The yellow bicycles zoomed pass in a trail of a blurred silhouette. The passersby couldnât understand the hustle and bustle, thinking it was just the wind that had caused the commotion.
Xiao Nian was so exhausted he felt as though he was going to die.
Panting away like a cow, he paddled after Pei Zhen through the turns and corners of the streets. He looked back at the quiet lane behind him and finally gave up.
âStop⌠stop now.â He put one leg down on the ground as his bicycle came to a halt. Then with a thud, he sat himself down, not caring in the least about his own image. âI⌠I canât go on.â
Pei Zhen was tired too, but he had considerably good stamina. At least, he didnât look half as bad as Xiao Nian. âDonât⌠donât say you canât if youâre a man.â
âThen why donât you give me a ride.â
âGet lost.â Pei Zhen took a few deep breaths. He thought of his boyfriend and gritted his teeth. He had to get on with it. Just as he was about to take out his mobile phone to check the map, the back door of the bookshop swung open.
Xiao Nian was leaning against the door.
As the door swung open he lost his balance and toppled over with a piercing scream. While his head didnât hit the ground, it did hit something soft.
Leg⌠a long leg, then a towel and in between the legs⌠the little birdie.
Xiao Nian immediately turned over and scrambled as he got up. Turning red, he stared at the man who had decided to appear out of nowhere. âYou son of a bitch!â
âItâs the twenty-first century now; havenât you learned how to be more civilized?â The man had attractive features and was quite dashing. âIâm the one being disadvantaged here. Donât worry, I have a partner and wonât hold you responsible.â
Xiao Nian was still stunned by the incident but grew more furious as the man spoke. He hadnât thought about how he wanted to position his argument when the man turned to look at Pei Zhen.
âYou⌠look a little familiar.â
âOh.â Pei Zhen looked indifferent.
Then he walked over to help Xiao Nian up. Obviously, they should get up and go right away.
No longer bothering with the bicycle, Pei Zhen decided to call a cab. He took out his mobile phone. All of a sudden, the man shouted, âOh! Now I remember!â
âYouâre the guy who came out of the closet or something.â
âTsk tsk, why are you in such a pathetic plight? Is the other guy such a piece of trash?â
Pei Zhen gave him an icy look. However, he didnât understand why the man would call Fu Sichen a piece of trash.
âOh? You havenât read the news?â
