Some are human-powered, some use bows or springs, and some use weights. There are various shapes and types.
The previous ones were uniquely designed, using human power and strings made from the skins of magical beasts to fire the projectiles.
But thanks to this projectile model, new ideas can be introduced. We have been trying the spring and slingshot types, but they donât work. Adding to the fact that the the ballista was so much easier to use in most cases.
However, in the case of this heavy projectile launcher, not only the size of the projectile is increased, but the power and flying distance must also increase.
Because the structure is simple, improvements have been made over a long period of time, and the most efficient and easy-to-use structure is being experimented.
Since it would be inefficient to check this from scratch, we requested the Belrango Trading Company to purchase a model and blueprints while we were making the projectile ourselves.
We selected three out of the five models to use. With these, we would be able to make the best projectile launcher.
Incidentally, we could not find any gunpowder, which I have been looking for at the same time. Unfortunately, it seems that they have not spread to this area yet.
âWell, thereâs no use getting depressed about something I canât get.â
I muttered to myself and started improving the projectile launcher.
This time, I had an idea of how high up I would have to reach if I wanted to target the wyverns in flight.
It would actually be able to fly higher, but I donât think it would fly any higher than that if it was going to carry a magician on board.
Itâs cold, and the air is thin. That would probably limit the speed as well.
Then it should be possible to attack with a pitchfork.
With a model projectile, we could raise the angle of elevation to about 40 degrees. Considering the fact that it is designed to send objects far away, it is probably not possible to set the angle too high.
On the other hand, a seesaw-like shape would increase the angle of elevation, but would not allow the object to fly very far. Furthermore, it would not have enough power to reach a target with a high altitude.
It has to be high, but powerful enough.
To achieve both, I made countless models.
What I ended up with was Prototype No. 54.
It was the simplest weight thrower, with a spring added to ensure initial velocity. The angle of elevation was a whopping 70 degrees. It is a specialized anti-aircraft projectile with sufficient height and power.
It is loaded with a box of shurikens. It is almost the same as the one we used last time, although we have improved it so that it spreads better than before.
The model worked so well that I decided to make a bigger one, and it turned out better than I expected.
The ejected shuriken diffused beautifully in the air and flew high into the sky.
âOh, itâs out of sight!â
As I cheered with delight, a slightly stunned Dee looked up at the sky and groaned.
âUmmm⊠this is a marvelous thing. It flies too high and has a long dwell time, but itâs going to rain down on a wide area later on. The bigger the enemyâs army, the more effective it will be.â
I laugh back at Dee, who expresses these impressions, and nod.
âThatâs true. Once fired, it takes time to prepare, so it wonât be usable for a while, but the power, range, and durability are all up to par. Letâs hold out with this until we can find gunpowder.â
ââŠPatience, huh? I didnât think you were still dissatisfiedâŠâ
Espada chuckles at my words and mutters. Most of the others were in raptures. Among them, Till and Camsin, who were not upset at all, looked up at the pitchfork and opened their mouths.
âItâs big, by the way.â
âVan-sama, how many of these rock throwers are you going to make?â
âTwenty of the installed ones, from east to west, north to south, and south to north, and five mobile ones for the time being. Iâm thinking of five mobile ones for the time being. Ah, but itâs okay if they are only on the flat roads, but it might be difficult to transport them to ScudettoâŠ?â âAh, itâs true that it would be very difficult.
âOh, some of the roads were indeed quite tough. If itâs this big, it might fall down on the hillâŠâ
After exchanging such comments with Till, Camsin, and Arte, it suddenly occurred to me.
âThatâs right. I can make it on site. If I only need to transport the ingredients, I can handle it.â
When I said this, everyone exclaimed, âI see!â They all exclaimed.
I feel that everyone is becoming numb to their own territory, even if it is their own people.
With this thought in mind, I looked up at the 15-meter-high stone thrower.
And so it went for a week. We quickly set up a new wall and a stone thrower on the outside of the castle wall. In addition, we prepared five additional horse-drawn wagons and loaded the materials for the catapults into them. The armored wagons used last time are also being used again, so the team is larger this time.
âI wanted to do a little more training on how to operate the projectiles, but it couldnât be helped. Iâm going to go to the site, build the pitchforks quickly, and then go home.
I bid farewell to the remaining Espada in the village and head off to war again.
âOh no. If it were true, I would have never gone to war again.â
Arte raised an eyebrow at me as I muttered this.
âThatâs right. I think providing that ballista will be enough. We even went to the trouble of getting a new stone throwerâŠâ
Till nodded in agreement at Arteâs somewhat disgruntled words, and Camsin looked as if he wanted to say something, but kept his mouth shut when he saw me.
I chuckle and shake my head from side to side.
âTo be honest, I donât want to leave my village either. But if the Kingdom of Jiernetta continues its invasion and takes the towns around Seat Village, Iâll be in trouble. I dread to think what would happen if we could no longer get sugar. So, in this neighborhood, we have Scudetto and Fort Salz, the defense base of Count Ferdinand. I donât think we should let these two places fall.â
As he said this, Camsinâs eyebrows furrowed in a troubled c.
âBut I think Scudetto has already been takenâŠâ
He pointed out anxiously. But I nodded deeply, waiting for him to say that.
âSo weâll take the pitching machine with us, and after we recapture Scudetto, we can loan Scudetto the pitching machine and the ballista. That way, I think, they wonât be so easily taken from us.â
âI see your point! If we have Van-samaâs weapons, weâll be fine!â
Camsin replied with a smile.
I nodded and smiled.
âBallista, Iâll lend you the stone thrower free of charge. But youâll have to pay for the arrows and shurikens and stuff to use with them. If we can get adventurers from Seat Village to peddle them on a regular basis, weâll make a lot of money.â
The long awaited, regular income from Seat Village.
I canât stop laughing.
ââŠVan-sama has a wicked laughâŠâ
âScudetto and SalzâŠyou mean Van-samaâs father and my father will pay for it.â
Till and Arte were slightly taken back, but what they are doing is no different than wholesaling swords and armor. It is a legitimate business.
Well, itâs a business that probably no one but me can enter.
âI should give him about one gold coin for each arrow. One shuriken is worth five silver coins. For a box of shurikens, Iâll give you two large gold coins as a service.â
Considering the materials, this was a rip-off.
But Arte nodded at that with a radiant smile.
âItâs Van-sama, after all. Selling at such a low priceâŠare you thinking of the people who live there?â
âHuh? Oh, yes, yes, yes. Cheap, right?
âYes. Yes, considering how powerful and valuable it is, I think itâs too cheap.
Arte clearly stated. Apparently, it was too cheap.
Looking at Arteâs smile, I felt uncomfortable raising the price. I should have thought a little more about the price.
