Chenglin Building was the main research department of X University. It has eight floors in total, with a few small classrooms on the first and second floors, which were convenient for regular teaching. On the second floor, in room 218, Jin Ling was sitting facing the window, with the sunlight hitting her round face, making her cheeks look even more blushed. At Xiâan, in mid-April, the weather wasnât hot, but the afternoon sunlight gave a warm feeling, making people feel sleepy. Jin Ling was holding her cheek with her hand closed into a fist, and her gaze was lazily looking ahead, where the professor giving the lesson also tiredly yawned with fatigue.
Inside the small classroom, there were about ten people. It wasnât that the classroom was tiny, but that few students attended the class. Zhang Xiaomei, Jin Lingâs roommate, was also absent. Jin Ling simply thought that she might have gone to the library againâŠ.
The late afternoon sunlight leaped onto the window, in a lazy and intoxicating way. Jin Ling liked this feeling, as a hint of sleepiness was creeping in with such languor in her body.
The sound of the professorâs voice explaining the lecture seemed to be getting farther and farther away, more and more blurred, as Jin Lingâs half squinted eyes closed little by little. She didnât know how long it was, but the hand supporting her chin suddenly slipped off and she woke up at once, while she raised her hand to rub her temple, Jin Ling unintentionally looked out of the window. Out of nowhere, the gray shadow of a figure fell from the outside of the window in front of her, and before she could even react to what that was, the sound of a heavy object collapsing on the ground filled Jin Lingâs ears.
Immediately after, a momentary dead silence fell on the campus, and a sudden scream spread everywhere: âAaaahhh!! Someone jumped off the building!!â
Jin Ling was startled and hurried to get up, to look out of the window. However, at first glance, the thing Jin Ling saw became a nightmare that would haunt her for countless nights in the future.
The intense dark red blood was slowly spreading on the floor under the dead body of a woman. Her still open eyes showed a horrifying sight, and yet, Jin Ling was able to recognize her. She was her roommate, Zhang Xiaomei, the one who hadnât gone to class todayâŠ.
Ever since that sad event took place, a whole month had passed, and for the people that didnât know or interacted with Zhang Xiaomei, this event was nothing more than a tragic story to talk about after class. Living their lives as usual, as if nothing happened.
âŠ
Qin Cheng has never been a warm-hearted person, and it was impossible for him to care for matters that had nothing to do with him. If this was before, after having heard that Zhang Xiaomei passed away, he wouldâve just nodded his head and forgotten about it. However, things are different now.
âQin Cheng, did you hit your head that day? Why have you been talking nonsense ever since you were discharged from the hospital?â
âI would be happier if there was something wrong with my brain.â Qin Cheng closed his eyes and looked in the direction that Wu Hai had just left a few moments ago, then he started to suddenly feel very agitated.
Many things had been happening throughout the last few days. If it werenât because the injuries in his neck, that were inflicted on that terrifying night, were still present on his skin, Qin Cheng would start to worry whether he was going insane. Not to mention that Lin Hongxing was still in a coma in a hospital in Beijing.
People will always be afraid of unknown things, let alone things related to ghostsâŠ.
Qin Cheng still cherished his life, and he didnât want to experience the fear he felt that night a second time.
However, he felt a kind of premonition inside his heart. The feeling that if he left Wu Hai alone, the only thing left from him would be his corpseâŠ.
âFollow me.â While looking at Zhang Junâs face, Qin Cheng said: âIâm afraid that something awful is going to happen to Wu Hai.â
Qin Chengâs sudden words made Zhang Jun, who was already a little bit scared inside his heart, feel even more uncomfortable: âTell me, could it be that you really saw Zhang Xiaomei?â
Knowing that Zhang Jun was scared, Qin Cheng didnât dare to explain. Instead, he turned around and ran towards the Chenglin Building.
Seeing Qin Cheng leave, Zhang Junâs thoughts rolled a thousand times inside his mind. In the end, he finally decided to go after Qin Cheng.
Qin Cheng probably knew what was inside Zhang Junâs mind. In the eyes of some people, Qin Cheng was a suspect in Jiang Boâs death and the possible culprit who injured Lin Hongxing. Even though Zhang Jun didnât say anything to him because of their friendship, at the very least, he must still have some doubts in his heart.
Especially right now, when Qin Cheng had said some âstrangeâ words in the middle of the night, only to lead Zhang Jun to the Chenglin Building, which was completely deserted at this hour. Anyone would wonder in their hearts whether he was having some ulterior motives, would go crazy, or even harm him.
Therefore, Qin Cheng didnât feel that there wasnât anything wrong with Zhang Jun following from afar. After all, Chenglin Building wasnât that far away, and after walking for five minutes or so, they arrived. However, before Qin Cheng could carefully search for Wu Haiâs whereabouts, Zhang Jun, who was still walking behind him, suddenly shouted: âWu Hai?!â
âWhereâs Wu Hai?â Qin Cheng said.
After Zhang Jun shouted Wu Haiâs name, he immediately ran to Qin Chengâs side and pointed to the roof: âWhere are you looking at? Are your glasses just for decoration?!â
Looking at the direction pointed by Zhang Junâs finger, he saw a blurred figure on the roof of the building, climbing the protective fence. Because of his myopia, and even with his glasses on, Qin Cheng wasnât able to see very well. However, he could partially see a woman pushing Wu Hai forward.
Qin Cheng didnât have to guess who she wasâŠ.
A sudden chill grew inside Qin Chengâs body. â Sheâs going to kill Wu Hai! â
âWu Hai! What do you think youâre doing?! Donât be impulsiveâŠ..!â Zhang Jun went to the front of the building and began to shout out loud. However, no matter what he said, it was as if Wu Hai couldnât hear him at all. He wasnât even reacting to his call, not giving any response.
âItâs useless!â Qin Cheng looked at the two people on the roof, no, it should be said that one was a person, and one was a ghost: âIâm afraid that Wu Hai is under her control.â
âYouâre still sayingââŠ.â At first, Zhang Jun tried to say something, but he accidentally glanced at the ground that was right under the building. This was in the exact same direction where Zhang Xiaomei fell that dayâŠ.and it just so happened to be the same spot Wu Hai was going to fall fromâŠ.
When that incident happened, Zhang Jun just so happened to be back at campus. Even though he didnât see Zhang Xiaomeiâs corpse, he did see the pool of dark red blood.
Wu Hai and Zhang Jun considered each other as friends, and when they worked in Ninghua Village together, they would also be on the same team. Therefore, Zhang Jun was well aware that Wu Hai hadnât gone back to campus even when he heard the news of Zhang Xiaomeiâs death. He merely went to Zhang Xiaomeiâs hometown before Jiang Boâs incident took placeâŠ.
âThen, what should we do?â
âWeâll save him.â
âHow will we save him?â
âStay here, Iâll go up and check on him.â With that, Qin Cheng turned around and ran towards the stairway of the building.
At night, the elevators inside the campus were locked, so Qin Cheng could only use the stairs.
Hastily climbing to the top of the eighth floor, Qin Cheng was a little out of breath. As he tried to calm down his breathing rhythm, Qin Cheng was able to clearly see the stiff smile on Zhang Xiaomeiâs face behind Wu Hai. Her white arms were still pushing Wu Hai forward.
