Chapter 2 part 1-3
The film screening was held after the start of the second class.
The time allotted for it wasn’t much but the challenges of the task weren’t set all that high. Moreover, this is the second work we’ll be doing after getting a taste of the joys of making a real movie. It’s been said a lot of times that teams that were created here that made good works were highly valued by the time graduation rolls around, so most of the students here take it seriously.
The students are gathered at the screening venue with almost no absentees.
“Ok then, looks like everyone is present”
Kanou-sensei’s look’s around the classroom.\n“The method of evalution plus the screening order are the same as last time. I’m sure you have a lot of things to say like “The time period is too short~” or “Suddenly doing a 5 minute work is unreasonable~”, saying things like that can be left after the film's run. Would that be alright with you?”
The people in the venue breaks out into a laugh.
“The works wills be ranked this time too.  The top three will be named and evaluated. I am looking forward to the works your team have worked hard on.”\nContrary to the amount of fuss we were making, the atmosphere in our team is actually quite good.\n“Let’s go team, don’t you think our work would be able to get 1st this time?”
It seemed like the results with his previous team didn’t pan out last time, so he was fairly excited for this.
“The ones who got 1st and 3rd last time are working together you know, so isn’t it a given that we will get it?”\nTsurayuki is now in a completely good mood and is waiting in anticipation for the screening.\n“I’m looking forward on the results of our evaluation~”\n“Ah- my heart won’t stop pounding! I really want to do something about my embarrassment~”
Shinoaki and Nanako are excited for it in their own ways.\nThey were calm as if the tension from the film showing before was like a lie.\n“How do you think it’ll hold up Kawasegwa….”
I looked over at Kawasegawa who was sitting beside me.\nFrom her usual 1st place standing, I’ve been wondering about it…how overwhelmingly in favor it actually was for us. However.\n“……”
That Kawasegawa was starinng at the screen silently with a tense look.\n“What’s the matter, Kawasegawa?”
“Eh? Ah, it’s nothing really”
Kawasegawa answered, clearly hiding something.\n“Is there something on your mind? Is there anything about the work that’s left unfinished?”
“There’s nothing like that. I do have some regrets, but it is beyond my reach.”\n  How unusual. Kawasegawa gave a somewhat vague remark.\n“….I’ve been a little interested with another work that will be screened this time.”\n“Interested?”
“Yeah, In any case it’s not something you should really worry about.”\nWhen I tried to ask what work it was.\n“Ah…..”
The buzzer sounded and the lighting was turned off.
-----------------
The 2nd to the last screening is Team Kitayama Reformed ’s very own work.\nNanako is portrayed as a girl who was born in a town by the sea, and thought that was the only place there was. But throughout the story her world gradually expands after meeting with a city girl. Finally, in search for new horizons they leave the town behind… was how the story went.
The lines Tsurayuki crafted were truly memorable. Shinoaki’s composition conveyed the script loud and clear. But above all, Kawasegawa’s directing and editing were truly something else. Just like her work from the first semester it is just flawless.
There were no lines nor scenes that could be called useless, the editing was just exquisite. Even if one were to actively search for flaws in it there would be no complaints whatsoever.
“It was…greatly done.”\n I thought that evaluation was more appropriate than anything else.
And then the film ended, despite the work being shown near the end of the screening applause still roared for it over the venue.\n “Woah-, aren’t we getting rave reviews?”\n“Didn’t we just get to first place with that?”\nHikawa burst out into delight, and Tsurayuki quickly followed up with his thoughts soon after.\n“Nanako, you gave out an amazing look on camera huh~”\n“Praising me that much-, I’m pretty embarrassed about it, but I’m happy for the praise.\nShinoaki is all smiles and Nanako is acting shyly.
Yup, those should be the proper reactions.\n“………………..”\nBut what’s with this small nagging feeling that I had.\nThe degree of quality is certainly high.\nIt’s been praised. It’s even been evaluated. But this sense of achievement is different from what I was expecting.\n“Kawasagewa, what did you think about it…..”\nLooking by my side I stopped breathing for a moment\n“…………tsk”\nKawasegawa’s face looked grim. It wasn’t that much but nevertheless I find it hard to believe that it was an expression a director who screened a work that received that much applause would make.
“Kawasegawa what’s wrong”\nAnd with my words she uttered a single word.\n“An imitation…”\nI tilt my head.
“Eh, what did you say?”\nBefore she could answer my question.
“Now for the final work”\nAs the Assistant Lady so, the lights went out again.\n\n-------------------------
When Kawasegawa said “There’s a work that interest me.”  hat was it all about in the end? At the very least, with all the works shown here, I don’t think there was anything eye-catching so far.
(Then perhaps that was the only remaining work)\nThe showcase of the final work has begun. I concentrate on what’s show on the screen.
“……No way.”\nWho was the first to speak up?\nIt was quite a feeble voice, but I can hear the voice clearly.\nI couldn’t tell if it was Nanako or Kawasegawa’s voice.
Even though it was a trivial matter, the shock was all the same\nIt was a quiet work. The stage was coincidentally the same as our team, the sea.
However unlike ours which was a bustling beach, theirs was a place with no one nearby. The story is straightfoward. The male protagonist, due to family circumstances escapes by car with a girl along for the ride. In the end it was neatly tied up with him standing up to the situation…. Is how the story went.
The camerawork also deserves praise. The performance was solid. Although the scenario was more or less unreasonable, I think it was at an acceptable range.
But comparing it side by side with our team’s work, it’s fine to say that ours’ is better overall. Even with minute errors, in the long run made it interesting.\nThe decisive difference belies with the actors’ abilities.\nI take a deep breath.\nLooking back at it, after a brief reprieve, the lines are delivered.
Each of his moves were as if the character was brought to life. It wasn’t simply done for realism’s sake. Even with the irregular parts. Looking at the actor up close a reassuring confident expression appeared. In terms of the difference of just how much the acting sold itself to the crowd, it’s a complete wash enrapturing the audience. For instance, the time when the little girl shouted en route to her destination a scared “oh my” almost leaked out from the audience stands.  \n“This is…”
This was probably what Kawasegewa was referring to as the “Interesting work”
The name of the actress* was imprinted on the pamphlets that were given beforehand.
Maybe Kawasegawa could have been familiar with the name.\n(TN- The first time the gender of the actor is revealed was when it was mentioned little girl)\n Our work was certainly organized, quite good even.
But only in regards to the criteria set by the school. Going in that vein though, there are limits to it. Right now what’s flowing before my eyes, though roughly hewn, but one could definitely classify it as a “Work”*
(TN-sorry for the lack of vocab uwu you see whenever I say work in this series it’s translated from the word “作品“(pronounced Sa-ku-hin) which is used to refer to “creative works” as in literary, arts, musical, and etc. works  than an actual job. Translating it as only “work” really came to bite me back with this scene huh XD so this scene might lack a lot of nuance than it would in its original language but bold italic to the rescue as I always say ha
Tsurayuki, Hikawa, Shinoaki, and Kawasegawa all had their eyes nailed to the screen.\n
“Nanako….?”\nWhen the actors clearly stand out, the one’s being compared to will feel the brunt of the pain.\n“…………..”\nNanako silently looked at the screen.\nHer mouth is slightly open, and it looked like she was subduedly saying something.\nI wonder what the underlying cause for the difference was.
I don’t think it was the details in acting or the movement.
“This is crazily good, Isn’t it the most interesting one?”\n“By comparison wasn’t the other just a total sham. Somehow it felt she was just wildly raising her voice, mindlessly dishing out her lines~”\n“The intonation was so forced. After seeing this performance, makes the other one look like complete child’s play”\nMy body shook in surprise with the thoughtless words being thrown from behind.\nRegretfully though, our team couldn’t deny it. It’s clear as day on what part was the difference between the two works.\n“That actress was holding everybody back, that hack from before.”
In addition to everything else, something that blunt was said.\nI wonder if Nanako heard it.\nNo, whether she heard it or not doesn’t really matter.\nNanako herself probably painfully understands the difference between ability.
