Leo didnât mind Furyâs protest and felt being a mercenary was rather good. However, if Fury didnât wish to be the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. right now, Leo was helpless against it. After all, one can take a horse to water, but one canât make it drink.
âHow should I give you one-third of the name list? By the way, I can provide free delivery service.â Leo started discussing business with Fury.
âThereâs no need. Just tell me over the phone.â Fury didnât want to meet Leo.
Leo was indifferent about it and stated straight away, âAlright, listen carefully.â
âŠâŠ
Leo spoke while Fury jotted down. Half an hour went by as he gradually uttered the last name, âAlexander Pierce.â
On the other end of the call, Fury frowned while silently jotted down the name.
âYouâre not surprised?â Leo inquired.
âNot at all. Iâve long suspected him.â Fury said calmly, âItâs about you, Mr. Erwin. Who in the hell are you?â
Fury was curious about Leo for a long time. Leo Erwin, an ex-assistant of H.Y.D.R.A. âs Dr. Zola, current CEO of New Yorkâs El Tech Company. He provided the location of H.Y.D.R.A. bases and provided the name list of H.Y.D.R.A. spies in S.H.I.E.L.D. as wellâŠ
This was every information Fury possessed about Leo.
What was more confusing for him was whatâre the actual causes for Leo to leave H.Y.D.R.A. and turn against it!
Leo knew what Fury wanted to ask and he had already prepared an answer, âYou can treat me as a traitor who forsaken darkness for light.â
It was this one simple sentence.
The corner of Furyâs mouth twitched and chose not to pursue anymore.
âWho the hell doesnât know youâre a traitor? Forsaken darkness for light⊠Answering this way means you donât want to answer anything!â
With this thought, Fury said, âThe technological information Iâll send to you within seven days. Itâs getting late, Iâm leaving work. Thatâs all then.â
Just as Fury was going to hang up, Leo stopped him, âHey, wait. Did you forget something?â
âWhat?â Fury acted ignorant.
Leo glanced at the silent Natasha at the side, âAbout Agent Romanoffâs ransom. We still havenât talked about it.â
âOh, this.â Fury considered for a bit before saying, âIâve been kicked out right now and canât apply for funds. So, I canât pay the ransom for now. Agent Romanoff, youâll have to stay at El Tech Company for a while.â
TututuâŠ
Before Leo and Natasha managed to react, Fury swiftly hung up the phone.
Concurrently, at the faraway San Francisco. After hanging up the phone, Fury stared at the densely written notebook in his hand in dazed.
Leaving Natasha in New York was a result of careful considerations. He was prepared to let Natasha monitor Leo. Moreover, he didnât expect there would be that many spies within S.H.I.E.L.D. Accidents were prone to happen if he left Natasha alone in the base. Leaving her at El Tech Company was safer.
Although he was uncertain of Leoâs true objectives, after two transactions, he could sense Leo didnât have any bad intentions toward S.H.I.E.L.D. Therefore, Leo wouldnât do anything to Natasha. The so-called being imprisoned was just an overdone joke. He wasnât worried about Natashaâs safety.
What he was more concerned about was the densely written name list in his hand. This was one-third of the name list. If it was the entire name list, then did it mean around 60% of S.H.I.E.L.D. was H.Y.D.R.A. personnel?!
Fury alone couldnât clear these many H.Y.D.R.A.s!
Did he really need to request assistance from Leo Erwin?
âŠâŠ
Simultaneously, El Tech Company. Chairmanâs office.
Natasha and Leo were both stunned by Furyâs answer as they gradually widened their eyes, each with their own thoughts in mind.
Natasha, âFury, are you messing with me again?!â
Leo, âFury, you old fox! You f*cking throw a hot potato at me?!â
After a long time, Natasha snapped out of it first and silently stood up before heading to the door.
âWhere are you going?â Leo asked, âRight now, youâre still being imprisoned. I prepare to ask for five million ransom from Fury. If Fury doesnât pay the money, I wonât let you go!â Leoâs tone was fierce, venting out the anger Fury gave.
âIâm going to look for Teacher Bucky to have dinner.â Natasha halted her footsteps and coldly said, âBesides, Fury wonât spend the money. His underlying words are letting me stay here and monitor you.â
Leo felt some pain at the back of the tooth groove. Otherwise, why would he be calling Fury an old fox that threw a hot potato?!
âFine. Go and find Bucky for dinner.â He didnât want to see this potato again and waved his hand. âRemember to report to the HR Department tomorrow and let the person in charge arrange a job for you. The salary will be 5000 dollars a month. After you have five million, Iâll let you go.â
Natasha couldnât turn him down. She raised her hand and forcefully twisted the locked doorknob, heading out.
The door slammed with an annoying thud.
Leo took a deep breath before exhalingâŠ
If it wasnât for Natasha being Buckyâs student, Leo really wished to hang her up and send a pic to Fury, proving the imprisonment wasnât a joke!
But now, Bucky and Natasha still carried the teacher-student relationship. Leo had no way of taking rough actions on Natasha. He could only take it one step at a time, leaving the matter for a later time.
After Natasha left, Leo was the only one left in the office. Recalling his deal with Fury, he believed he didnât make a loss. What technologies had Howard Stark left in S.H.I.E.L.D., he had no idea about it as well. However, as long as he could get the blueprint of a huge-sized Arc Reactor, he felt it would be a huge profit.
Ever since Viper Mark V was able to fly, its energy consumption was large and Leo loved to fly around when he had nothing to do. So, for the past few days, the energy in Vibranium Energy Crystals hadnât been fully charged at all.
While constantly siphoning electricity wasnât a reliable way either, the large-scale nuclear reactor fuel was too difficult to be purchased! Moreover, the radiation from the nuclear reactors was dangerous. If there was any leakage, it was akin to treating the entire New York City as a joke.
Hence, Leoâs plan of building a large-scale nuclear reactor in his lab was scratched.
It just so happened today when he was negotiating with Fury, he suddenly recalled the movie âIron Man 2â from his past life. In the movie, Fury gave Tony a box left behind by Howard. Inside the box was the blueprint of a large-scale Arc Reactor. Thus, he decided to exchange the H.Y.D.R.A. name list with the high-end technology left behind by Howard.
âBesides, maybe among the technologies provided by Fury, one of them may give me an unexpected surprise! Heh!â Leo chuckled while mumbling to himself with an excited face.
After considering all of the benefits, Leo began to ponder the hidden value of this deal.
Opening the system, he glanced at his mission tab.
ăMission âUndying H.Y.D.R.A.â. Current completion rate, 69%.ă
The mission completion rate hadnât moved an inch for six months.
Leo reckoned the remaining progress of the mission should probably be on the leader, Sinthea, Dr. Zola, and spies within S.H.I.E.L.D. Giving H.Y.D.R.A. 2.0 name list Fury, Fury certainly would think of ways to annihilate these snakes. Then, wouldnât he be able to complete the mission while doing nothing?
Thinking of this, Leo wouldnât complain about the old fox, Furyâs stunt just now. Walking to the cupboard, he stretched out his hand, summoning Viper Mark V over.
Trudging over to the rooftop, the Anti-gravity Pulse Blasters ignited and Leo soared into the sky. He had no important matters to attend, flying out was just purely to enjoy the sensation it brought. For him, flying out was just the same as a stroll after a meal.
After soaring in the sky and enjoying New Yorkâs nighttime view, Leo returned to his private lab before starting to hammer stuff.
The large-scale Arc Reactorâs blueprint was arriving soon. He wanted to make room for it in the basement.
