Chapter 56 Erwin’s El Building
Inside the firm, Matt sat on the chair with his guide stick and carefully listened to Leo’s consultation.
Matt thought Leo did not recognize him as Daredevil and it was a pure coincidence for Leo to find out about his law firm.
However, Matt knew Leo was not an ordinary person and Leo even brought huge chaos to Hell’s Kitchen. So, he decided to draw the line and reject Leo’s employment.
Matt pretended to ponder and slowly said, “Mr. Erwin, I’m happy you’ve chosen our law firm. But according to our legal specialization, we are only prepared to take litigation cases and are even more inclined to criminal proceedings. Therefore, we can’t help you with your corporate-related legal inquiries. Moreover, I advise you to look for a professional intermediary agency if you want to find someone else to handle the procedures of registering a company on your behalf.”
Leo understood why Matt declined his employment but how could Leo let it go easily? Today he must get Matt.
Thus, Leo faked a surprised expression and exaggerated, “How can your firm be like this? Why did you ignore the money in hand?! I’ve heard from Mr. Nelson you just opened, how can you turn down your first business?!”
“Mr. Erwin, it’s not that we are unwilling to help you but there are other agencies that are more professional than us and suitable for you. I’m doing this for your company’s sake, that’s why-”
“Matt, what’s the problem? Why did I hear Mr. Erwin say you turned down his request?!”
Leo’s loud voice attracted the busy Foggy as he expected. Foggy said in a frustrated tone, “This is our first day of opening and a business comes looking for us. Matt, you can’t decline it easily, it’s related to our future luck!”
“Foggy, it’s not that I don’t wish to accept his order, but this gentleman’s inquiries are not in our business scope.”
“What’s it about?”
Just as Matt was going to answer, Leo took the initiative to repeat what he said to Matt to Foggy. Foggy was overjoyed after he listened to Leo and said, “Mr. Erwin, please don’t listen to Matt’s nonsense. We learned all kinds of legal knowledge in university, so there’s no so-called specialization. Although we intended to be mainly responsible for criminal litigations, we still can accept business related to company legal advising. Since you wished to hire us to register your company… We indeed lack relevant experience but we can handle it. I hope Mr. Erwin can be understanding since no one was born perfect, there’s always a first in life.”
Foggy’s words meant to Leo were ‘as long as you gave us a job, we will accept it, and you are not allowed to find someone else’. It was the complete opposite of Matt’s attitude.
“Boss, come and have a look at whether the signboard is straight or not.”
Foggy was going to persuade Leo but the workers kept urging from outside. Before he left, he said to Matt, “Matt, don’t be this rigid, we must be flexible as a person. We will accept Mr. Erwin’s request. You and he finalize the details of the request. If not for you being blind, I would let you take care of the signboard and discuss it with Mr. Erwin myself.”
Foggy turned around and left. Matt coughed a couple of times and smiled, “Mr. Erwin, please don’t listen to my partner. He just wanted to make money. You’ve heard him admitting we don’t have much experience. Opening a company is a huge deal and the investment naturally is big. You should search for professional and experienced people. I really wished to help you, but we really can’t.”
Foggy had made it clear they would accept the request but Matt was still trying to reject it. It could be seen how much Matt did not wish to work with Leo. Ergo, Matt was afraid of Leo. He felt if he was too close to Leo, it would cause unexpected problems.
Leo finally found this law firm after spending an hour in Hell’s Kitchen. How could he give up just like this?!
Since he could not persuade Matt with reasons, he could only play rough. Leo chuckled for a bit before saying in a joking tone, “Mr. Murdock, half a month has passed. How’s your back?”
Matt, who was still smiling, suddenly froze. His smile gradually lost and his expression became ugly. He finally understood it was not the first business, it was Leo deliberately looking for him…
“Huh! Mr. Erwin, I don’t understand what you are talking about. I was still on campus half a month ago, how could my back have any problem…?”
Looking at Matt still playing tough, not willing to admit he was Daredevil, Leo teased, “Mr. Murdock, my good partner, Mr. Bucky Barnes, admires you very much. He always wanted to recruit you. If I tell him your real identity…”
“Mr. Erwin, I’ll accept your request! But please protect my secret and don’t let anyone else know who I am!”
Matt shivered in his heart as he thought of Bucky. Hence, he unhesitantly accepted Leo’s request. Matt could not win and hid from the person in front of him, he was depressed! Moreover, this man even knew his real identity!
A wise person would recognize the current situation and Matt was forced to be this wise person.
Leo nodded in satisfaction indicating he would keep Matt’s secret. Soon, he realized Matt was a blind man so he spoke in a low voice, “Mr. Murdock, that’s decided then. I’ll keep your secret.”
Matt was unsure how trustworthy Leo was but he had no choice. He took out a piece and paper and sighed, “Mr. Erwin since that’s the case, let us begin talking about your request. What’s the name of the company that you want to register for and the company address?”
“The company name is El Tech Company and the address is Hell’s Kitchen, No. 3 Main Street One, El Building.”
Matt pulled down his sunglasses and stared at Leo with his white eyeballs. He exclaimed in astonishment, “There’s no El Building, that’s…”
“Matt, why are you shouting?! You must respect, be kind, and be patient with customers.”
Matt’s loud voice startled Foggy who was outside and he turned around and yelled at Matt interrupting Matt.
Leo could not help himself and gave a soft chuckle and said, “You wanted to say it’s Black Fist Gang’s base, right?! It’s different now, it’s being renamed to El Building, it’s Erwin’s El Building.”
