Chapter 224: The Result of Playing Around II (2/2)

They finally reacted when I called out, but two of the kids were too fast. Those two must be from the beast man tribe or something, so I had to make a move.
â âTeleportâ !ăGot you!ăCanât you wait!?â [Ryouma]
Fortunately, I succeeded in directly capturing them.
I practiced my dimension magic a lot when I had to recover so much of the mud salamander corpses back at Fatma Territory. The result of all that effort was showing now.
âLet go!â [Kid 1]
âThatâs our house!â [Kid 2]
âI want to see our house!â [Kid 1]
âY-You need to wait, itâs still dangerous.â [Ryouma]
While I was trying to keep the two kids in checkâŚ
âWhat are you brats doing!!?â [Revel]
â!â [Two Kids}
âAhhâŚâ [Ryouma]
âDidnât you promise to wait until the adults told you it was safe before entering since itâs dangerous!?â [Revel]
The person in charge of managing the slums, Revel-san, arrived before anyone else and caught the two kids.
The menacing look he wore made it so that the two kids couldnât argue. After securing the kids, he handed them back to the older kids.
âSeriously. Sorry that the kids got in your way.â [Revel]
âIn the end, nothing happened, so itâs fine.â [Ryouma]
âI see. âŚStill, thatâs some amazing magic youâve got there. You can destroy and create stuff as you wish.â [Revel]
âItâs still experimental, so I was just trying it out.â {Ryouma]
Although I did it because I thought it was possible, a structure that has been made through sand magic is essentially built with a compressed and hardened âsand stoneâ.
Sandstones are easy to work with but theyâre fragile and donât last that long. They also absorb a lot of water, so itâs possible for them to be damaged during winter. Theyâre not a good material to build outer walls with. Itâs also my first time building something at this size, so it wouldnât be strange if I messed up somewhere. To be safe, I need to double check it.
âThatâs why I need to build something sturdier for the childrenâs home. Thatâs also why we had the laborers come.â [Ryouma]
âThereâs one thing Iâd like to confirm.â [Zeff]
âHuh?â [Ryouma]
When I turned out around, Zeff-san was there.
Arnold-san, who was talking to some other people earlier, also approached.
âI heard that since most of the laborers we gathered today are experts at construction you want to use them to ensure the safety of the building?â [Zeff]
âWould it be fine?â [Ryouma]
âThe work will just change a little at most. Youâve gone out of your way to build so much already, and the sooner those kids have a place to sleep, the better, right?â [Zeff]
âŚThatâs true. The kids who ran off earlier might have also been scared of losing their home.
âRevel-san, we were planning on building a garden for the kids to play at, but do you mind if we build it just within this structure? Like that you can just destroy it and change it into a garden once a proper house has been built.â [Ryouma]
âA garden would be luxurious. As long as the kids have someplace to sleep, itâs all good. If they can live there, then they should just live there.â [Revel]
âI see. In that case, Zeff-san, can you talk to the laborers? Today, weâll be having them ensure the safety of this house. If itâs safe enough, then they should take measurements for the windows and the doors. When thatâs done with, they need to build a wall around the lot.â [Ryouma]
âGot it!â [Zeff]
After that Zeff-san ran off.
âWeâll go back to our guard duties too.â [Hyuzu]
âOh, yeah. Now that you mention it, thereâs more people trying to get a look at the house now too.â [Jill]
âSee you later!â [Camil]
Like that Hyuzu-san, Jill-san, and Camil-san left to manage the crowds of onlookers.
When they were all gone, Arnold-San from the government office approached me.
âGood work out there.â [Ryouma]
âYou too, Takebayashi-sama. Iâve been watching you work all tis time, but it sure was different from what I was expecting.â [Arnold]
âAhahaâŚâ [Ryouma]
Iâm sure he was expecting us to take a hammer out and build it normally. Even if he did consider the use of magic, he probably didnât expect us to rely on it so much. Actually, I also wouldnât have done this if I hadnât realized the potential of the sand slimes during my rest day and would have surely built it more orthodoxly.
âBut since you were able to make so much progress in such a short time, shall we speed up our preparations for the land readjustment project?â [Arnold]
âRight. Itâs too much for me to do everything myself, but with the help of the laborers, it shouldnât take too much time to demolish everything. We can also start rebuilding them immediately, so the construction time will be shortened by a lot.
Also, while I said that this building needs to be checked for safety, I didnât build it thinking it would only last a day or two. I made it with the intention of building a temporary residence that people could use to take shelter from the rain or as a place to take refuge when needed. So please take that into consideration when tuning it.
As for the rest, I supposed we can just see how things go and respond accordingly?â [Ryouma]
âIâm fine with that. Itâs good that we can settle our discussions so quickly.â [Arnold]
âPlease make sure to get the peopleâs consent.â [Ryouma]
âBut of course. Revel-san is cooperating too, so Iâm sure the people will understand.â [Arnold]
As he said that he smiled and turned to Revel-san.
âAs long as the government office is doing a proper job, we wonât complain needlessly either. Anyhow, I know youâre someone I can discuss things with properly, so Iâll work with you.â [Revel]
âThank you. Itâs my fortune to have a built a relationship with the boss of this district. Thanks to you itâs become a lot easier to hear the honest remarks of the people.â [Arnold]
âHmm.â [Revel]
âAnyway, I should excuse myself now. I still have other work to do. If you ever see me at the Catâs ForeheadCafe please donât hesitate to say hi.
âBe careful. Ah, and please donât just eat cakes all the time and eat a proper meal, okay?ăThe auntie at Catâs Forehead told me that youâve been taking home even more cake than before.â [Ryouma]
ââŚIâll consider it.â [Arnold]
Arnold-san wryly smiled and left.
âI donât know what you were talking about, but I donât think heâs going to listen.â [Revel]
âIndeed.â [Ryouma]
Later, Zeff-san told me that the house I made suited the climate around here and while it couldnât last for many years, it should be fine to live at temporarily.
After that the laborers took measurements for the windows and the doors. As for the construction itself, I left it to the slimes, while the laborers built the wall with stones I prepared using my magic. Meanwhile, I started constructing the childrenâs home for real at one of the empty spaces. I finished everything by the time sun had set.
