The five students huddled together in an attempt for warmth as they hoped for the blizzard to end.
However their prayers went ignored. The blizzard did not settle down. In fact it got worse.
Leaving the party trapped in a mountain hut.
“It. . .Won’t get a signal. . .”
Their mobile phones’ batteries were dying. Leaving the hopes of communications fleeting.
The shabby hut would sway constantly, as the strong wind steadily increased.
Occasionally a loud bang would arise from the wall.
“Kyaa!”
The girl, Kana Akagi closed her eyes and cried out with tears.
Their shield from the cold was barely standing. At the same time, their exhaustion is growing. For they have been out since the morning.
“I want to go home.”
She was quite narky during the day, but now she was completely frightened by the anxiety and fatigue.
“Ug ugu gug.”
She began to break down. Uemura then put his arms around her so she could cry into his shoulder.
“Stay firm, Kana. We’ll definitely be saved.”
“Uu. . .We will be?”
“Of course. So don’t just give up.”
The fire continued to burn in the fireplace, but it’s warmth was small.
(Something is off.)
Uemura had an eerie premonition.
The blizzard directly hit the hut sporadically but it felt like it had a mind of its own.
It was as if it was teasing the people in the hut, purposely scaring them.
It felt malicious, but at the same time, like childish bullying.
It was hitting in certain areas, as if herding them together into a corner.
(So then, if that is the case. What is next?)
He felt like pointing it out may bring more harm than good.
\n
“O-Oi. Is it getting cold all of the sudden?”
One of the boys shouted.
It has certainly always been cold. However the inside of the hut suddenly dropped even more.
Despite the fire, frost began to gather around them.
They don’t need to look at a thermometer to know the temperature is plummeting.
“O-Oh, It’s cold. The fire. . .”
“H-Hey. The fire is getting smaller.”
“It’s so cold. I hate it.”
All of the members gather even closer to the fire.
Fanning and blowing into the flame, hoping to extend its life with oxygen. However the flame’s time was quickly coming to an end.
It was as if the last thread to heaven was about to snap.
“W-Why. . ?”
“Don’t disappear, don’t disappear.”
However their pleas went unanswered, the fire gradually extinguished.
“Set up another fire, quickly!”
“Hurry!”
Their attempts failed again and again, as if the fire was instantly being destroyed whenever a spark came.
No matter how many clicks happened, there was no fire.
“What the hell. There is fuel, but it is starting!”
“C’mon, please.”
“We’ll freeze to death at this rate!”
“W-wah.”
The cold settled in around them, It was apparent it was minus 10 degrees, as cold as a freezer.
“Impossible. . .”
If the loss of fire wasn’t enough, the sudden freezing was enough to break the camel’s back.
Panic and fear began to ablaze.
“I can’t stay here!!”
“Let’s get out of here.- – -”
The members who wanted to leave were then stopped.
“Fool, where do you think you are going? If we leave now, we will just die.”
The intensity of the snowstorm won’t just settle down if they leave. They wouldn’t last 30 minutes if exposed to those conditions.
But now that the fire is out, that reality is approaching quickly closing in.
In other words, they were at their last breaths.
They snuggled up closer together, in an attempt to warm themselves, but it was totally ineffective.
The cold was creeping in, and everybody was realizing it.
“Somehow. . .I’m feeling sleepy. . .”
“Yeah, me too- – -”
“Fwaa. . .”
Soon their eyes felt heavy.
Their hearts slowed down, as exhaustion washed over them.
“Ahaha, the sea. I can see the sea. It will be warm there. Let’s quickly swim there.”
Some saw hallucinations.
“Hey! Wake up!”
The only one immune was Uemura.
He desperately shook the unconscious bodies of his friends.
“N-No. . .”
However, one after another went into a slumber.
No matter how hard he tried to awaken them, they continued to be dragged into the void by a sleeping demon.
“Wake up! Don’t sleep!”
He strongly slapped one of their cheeks in a desperate attempt. He knew he had to, because he knows that they would never wake up again.
“Oi, Kana!”
He shook the woman’s body.
“. . .”
But there was no response.
(Somebody, come, now.)
He pleaded to himself, but then he suddenly felt something.
“!?”
He looked up.
There was a noise near the entrance to the hut, even though it had been shut tight.
The door then slowly opened.
He had to cover his face as the raging snow loudly blew in.
“Who is it?”
Uemura uncovered his face to faintly see a figure.
Or rather, multiple figures.
It was then he heard laughs.
The laughter was like it was from multiple young girls.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While I didn’t expect a snow gang to be the ones behind it. Now I feel like they are going to bully Yukiya, instead of being her friend. It’s harder to befriend somebody when they are in a group. Or this is an illusion made by one snow girl. Regardless, they seem sadistic. So I wonder how this will play out.
